Financial Assistance 2020-21

Temple Sinai is committed to making it possible for all of our members to fully participate in every aspect of Temple life. We ask that each family pay its fair share as we all have an obligation to the financial support of the Temple—to our clergy, staff, programs, and building operations and maintenance.

 

It is not our intention to deny membership to anyone unable to afford the established fees. Financial assistance is available upon request.  

 

The financial assistance process permits members to inform the Temple of an economic situation that makes them unable to pay full membership. Financial assistance applications must be submitted annually.

 

To be eligible to apply for financial assistance, a member must be current with respect to all Temple Sinai obligations. We now require all applicants to submit a copy of their most recently filed Form 1040 of their federal tax return as part of their financial assistance application. Please note that applications which do not include a tax return will not be reviewed.

 

Financial assistance applications for 2021-22 are due June 25, 2021 and will be reviewed by the Financial Assistance Committee in the order in which they were received, beginning in mid-June, 2021. If no financial assistance application is submitted for 2021-22, members will be responsible for full membership commitment as reflected on their annual support statement. Completed financial assistance applications will be referred to Temple Sinai’s Financial Assistance Committee, which will confidentially review each financial assistance application and respect each family’s individual situation.

 

If a member disagrees with the decision of the Financial Assistance Committee, the member may appeal the decision by contacting the Financial Secretary within 30 days of the decision and requesting an in-person meeting with the Financial Assistance Committee to review its initial decision. After an in-person meeting with the Financial Assistance Committee, a member may appeal a Financial Assistance Committee decision to the full Board of Trustees. Forms submitted after June 25, 2021 may not be processed in time to allow Religious School registration or obtain High Holy Day tickets.
