Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel (1917-1972), a Polish born American Rabbi, was one of the leading Jewish theologians and Jewish philosophers of the twentieth century. Rabbi Heschel believed that the teachings of the Hebrew Prophets was a clarion call for social action in the United States. He marched beside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Selma, Alabama and was a great influence in getting the Catholic Church to eliminate or modify passages in its liturgy which demeaned the Jews.
