Persia through Biblical Eyes
(A study of the Book of Ezra)

When we think of modern Iran, a dark cloud of political and terrorist history comes to
mind. But, the biblical narrative attests that Iran, previously known as Persia, had a
long friendly relationship with Israel. This friendly co-existence is expressed in several
books of the Text. In our study we will concentrate on the Book of Ezra, as we discuss
Ezra’s leadership during a very important time in Jewish history. We will also examine
the Persian support for the Jewish return from the Babylonian exile to Eretz Israel and
the rebuilding of the Temple in Yerushalayim.
