Social Action Activities

Social Action Activities Mission Statement

We as Jews are commanded to pursue justice, and to participate in Tikkun Olam "Repairing the World".  The Temple Sinai Social Action Committee seeks to involve the congregation in serving and empowering those who are disadvantaged or in need.  We wish to educate and motivate congregation members, and provide avenues for adults, youth and children to do Social Action

Our social action activities include, but are not limited to:

2011 Mitzvah Day was Sunday, April 3.
Cookie baking for bag lunches      Habitat for Humanity

In addition, our ongoing programs include collecting new or used children's books for the HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) program, eyeglasses for Eye Care International, hearing aids for the Lions Club and non-perishable food for the local food bank.

Annual Connie Zingerman High Holiday food drive

The Social Action Committee sponsored the Connie Zingerman Super Food Drive during the High Holy Day season.  Shopping bags distributed at the end of both morning services on Rosh Hashanah were collected on Yom Kippur morning.  Helping to feed the needy of Sarasota is a wonderful Mitzvah to start the New Year.

Three times a year we gather, assemble and send care packages to Jewish military personnel serving overseas.

Temple Sinai has adopted South Lockwood Ridge Road as part of Sarasota County's Adopt-a-Road program of the Keep Sarasota County Beautiful initiative.
